Functional Development for ECUs

The operation of modern automobiles is significantly based on complex algorithms, which are implemented in software on electronic control units (ECUs). These ECUs control not just the basic functionalities of a car such as motor, gear, and under-carriage but also the actuating elements of security, driver assistance, and entertainment systems. Due to these ECUs reading a multitude of sensor information and their frequent communication among each other, the challenging development of ECUs is becoming an increasingly important part of the vehicle development process.

The importance of an efficient development process of an automobile drives the need for systematic requirement management, involving cross-department coordination and tool-supported function specification. Our trained development engineers are well versed in using requirement management tools. They also have extensive experience with several modeling, simulating and programming languages. Within the development process we offer expert knowledge in:

  • Requirement management at specification level
  • Core area function specification, solution development and reviews
  • Solution implementation and initial operation on HiL and vehicle
  • Core area application of (sub-) functions on the vehicle

When developing ECU software, we especially pay attention to the traceability of the single steps during development and to a modular functional architecture. We also consider a well-directed information exchange within the development team as well as toward other teams as crucial.

We support our customers on site or out of house in their complete or in parts of their development process. Certainly, we are also the ideal partner for test and validation within discrete development steps.
